An Open Letter to Hillary Clinton

Dear Mrs. Clinton,

Congratulations on securing the Democratic nomination for president of the United States. It’s historical! It’s liberating to women! You’ve broken the glass ceiling!

But at what cost?

As the mother of a beautiful young daughter, my desire is to teach her every day that she is priceless, valuable and precious beyond anything else in this world. I tell her that God has placed her on this earth for a very specific reason. I make sure that she never doubts her place here.

How exciting it would be for us to celebrate the accomplishments of the first woman ever to receive the presidential nomination of a major political party! Wouldn’t it be amazing if I were able to point my daughter to someone she could look up to and admire? Unfortunately for myself, my daughter and millions of other women in this nation, I can’t.

Sadly, Mrs. Clinton, you have shown not only my daughter but all daughters—and not only in this country but globally—that in order to, in your words, “shatter the glass ceiling” you have to lie, cheat, abuse, insult, bully and ignore. You threaten others along with disrespecting yourself.

Mrs. Clinton, how can I possibly tell my daughter to follow you as an example after you allowed your husband to assault and demean multiple women throughout his political career? Were those women not important? Tell me, will you fight for my rights like you fought for those womens’? Ummmm, I hope not. What about the sisterhood, Mrs. Clinton? Did you expose your husband for his abuse? No! Instead, you enabled him as the abuser and tried to silence his victims. How can you live with yourself? Female empowerment? Nice try!

How can you get up and speak about income equality and then pay your own male executives considerably more than your female staff? How can you receive donations from countries that publicly abuse, shame and even execute their own women? Yet you continue to boast about how you stand for women’s rights. Double standard?

You try your best to relate to those of us who work hard every day to achieve the American dream. You, however, know nothing of struggle. That $12,000 Armani jacket? Those $250,000 speaking fees? They speak volumes. Hypocrisy?

How could I possibly ask my daughter to look up to and trust you? Do you honestly think that you are an example to American children? My daughter watches the news. She has heard about the Americans who were attacked and slaughtered in a foreign land while you stood by and did nothing. Then, with their blood on your hands, you did everything you could to cast the blame on others, eventually telling Congress, “What does it matter now?” Dishonesty?

The fact of the matter is, Mrs. Clinton, that you are no champion of women. You are selling the women of this country a false bill of goods. Unfortunately, many are buying in. I don’t want you fighting for me or my daughter. You have the interests of only one woman in mind here: your own. You have done nothing to bring the United States together. Quite the contrary—you have done your best to divide, and you have succeeded. Congratulations. You crave power, and you will do whatever it takes to get it. You have lied, cheated and let down your own country.

My prayer, Mrs. Clinton, is that I would be able to teach my daughter how to be a true woman. A strong woman. A self-respecting woman. A woman who sees herself through the eyes of her Creator. I pray that she would be a woman of compassion, kindness, service, selflessness. One who has integrity and looks out for the needs of others.

In a way, I guess I should thank you, Mrs. Clinton. You have made it easy to teach my daughter who she does not want to aspire to be. Now may I have the courage to stand up and show her the woman she does want to be.

Sincerely,

Helen Wickert

P.S. By the way, I will pray for the next U.S. president, whether it is Donald Trump or you. God tells us to do so, and He can turn any heart toward righteousness and truth.

  1. How I wish that Mrs. Clinton would read this. She just seems to think whatever she does is for good. Her eyes are blind to the truth. I also pray that Gods will be done. He tells us to honor those in authority and that He puts them there. I hope He has mercy on this country that has gone so far from Him.

    • We champion people’s achievements, not their failures. The lessons are for the betterment of all people, not just those we do or do not like, do or do not agree with…….Concerning Courageous Fatherhood, Donald Trump is hardly a role model for my son. Pray for your country. It needs it. If you thought the Hillary conversation caused you pause, get ready, because we’re getting ready to have a lot of tough conversations in our near future. They will be our lessons.

      • In response to the respondent who stated that Trump is not a good role model for her son… Although I would not necessarily want my son to be identical to Donald Trump, there are many things that Trump models that are great examples. His directness, forthrightness, and willingness to do right by this nation are commendable. I am also VERY impressed at the way he has parented his own children, despite broken marriages. Even though they are wealthy and privileged, they have grown up learning to work with their hands, learning job skills that many of his employees need (did you know that his daughters know how to run fork lifts and heavy equipment?). All of his children are articulate and able to work on their own right, instead of just spending daddy’s money. If I had to choose among the past few presidents for a role model for my own son, Trump would be head and shoulders my second choice, right after Ronald Reagan.

  4. GOD teaches Us all to be careful with Our words and that always causes Me to sit back and wait. I am a Canadian and as such do not have a horse in this race. Word given to some of Us as far back as 2005 spoke to Trump being used by GOD as a wrecking ball from inside The White House. Just recently GOD caused Me a Canadian to research the date on which the decision to drop the bomb on Japan was made. June 15, 1945. Fast forward June 15 2015. Donald J. Trump announces He will seek the Republican nomination. If You understand how The Spirit of GOD flows You must know that puzzle bits are given and at the appointed time GOD pulls them all together to show the big picture. As an atomic bomb is exploded the initial blast is not where the most devastation happens. It is within the ground swell of the after math as it spreads outward from the bomb site. Another puzzle bit two days ago completed the picture along with another word. ” Who would have thought that GOD would use Donald J. Trump to completely destroy 2 major factions” ????

  5. You must have read my mind. An excellent description of Hilary Clinton. We have five wonderful daughters. I am so thankful that all of them are everything that Hilary Clinton isn’t. I praise the Lprd everyday for his blessing.

  7. You couldn’t have stated the facts any better. How true your words are. I personally could not believe how many women “bought in” to the Hillary for president predominately and only because she was a woman. Unbelievable. I can’t believe how many are still whining because she lost the election. All the lies and deceit from her and they still can’t accept that she wasn’t the woman she portrayed herself to be.

  9. This letter put it nicely. Too bad Mrs. Clinton did not get exposed for all she really did. There are so many corrupt and nasty things that have never been exposed. Only God knows and thankfully she will get her just reward.

  10. Herein lies the tragic absence of ownership that brings out the worst of Christianity. To accuse anyone, especially Hillary Clinton, with extreme judgemental words without giving full context or even an inkling of understanding is not only rude but ignorant as well. Hillary Clinton did not “lie, cheat, abuse, insult, bully and ignore” to break the glass ceiling, nor did she “threaten others along with disrespecting herself.”

She did so by working diligently for her accomplishments during her days at Yale, where she served on the Board of Editors of the Yale Review of Law and Social Action. She joined the Children’s Defense Fund as a staff attorney and Carnegie Council on Children as a consultant. Hillary was invited to join the impeachment inquiry staff of the Judiciary Committee of the House of Representatives during the Watergate scandal. She became one of the only two female faculty members at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville and founded the Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families while serving on the board of the Arkansas Children’s Hospital. She started the Home Instruction Program for Preschool Youth.

Hillary was named Arkansas’ Woman of the Year in 1983 and Arkansas’ Young Mother of the Year in 1984 AND was named among the top 100 lawyers by the National Law Journal twice, first in 1988 and then in 1991. As the First Lady, she played a crucial role in the passage of the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) and the Adoption and Safe Families Act.

Have you mentioned any of that, Helen, to your daughter? Maybe you should. You might also perhaps remind yourself that, as a wife, YOU do not allow or disallow the actions of your husband. To exploit Mrs. Clinton’s worst possible moment of her years as the first lady and frame it as “how can I possibly tell my daughter to follow you as an example after you ALLOWED your husband to assault and demean multiple women throughout his political career?” is embarrassing self-righteousness on your part (not Godly righteousness).

Do you even know exactly HOW Hillary Clinton HAS fought for the rights of women? If not, I highly suggest you do some research and share what you find with your daughter. While you are at it, please remind her that “the sisterhood” is not strengthened by labeling all wives or husbands who do not “expose” their spouse in the way YOU think they should are automatically ejected from “sisterhood” or “brotherhood.” Have you read Hillary’s public comments about her personal relationship condemning his actions? They are very strong and quite clear. I can only imagine what was shared privately between the two, and I don’t think she needs the likes of you spewing, at best, unbalanced attacks and accusations against her. But even in the light of “me too,” you have the audacity to question the first lady on how she can live with herself? Who are you to say any such things? Hillary does not lose her “female empowerment” credentials because you choose to attack her at what was probably a horrific time in her life. We’ve witnessed enough horrible behavior and judgment this year and maybe it’s time to publicly confess your own inadequacies if you feel the need to propagandize your religio-political hatred.

If you still feel the need, be sure to be inclusive of other public figures as well. And, if you are deliberately crossing the constitutional separation of church and state, let’s be sure to mention Trump, Pence, Joel Olsteen, and Franklin Graham as well, eh? Any double standards you’d care to “out” with them or others? Hypocrisy, as you so easily use to accuse, appears to be your personal weapon of choice – something that has not gone unnoticed in the world of conservative American Christianity throughout our history.

Honor those who gave their lives in Benghazi rather than use them as your political tool. Accept the judgments made by our highest courts, repeatedly. Look up and see what true corruption exists before our very eyes and fight against it with your daughter – proudly. Hillary has NOT let down our country Helen, you have. And you threaten to pass that on to your own child falsely using the Bible as justification and proof that you will parent so much better. Integrity? Nope. Humility? Most definitely NOT! If your daughter grows to be half the woman that Hillary Clinton has been throughout her life, you should be grateful. Your broad brush of judgment is unfounded and simply ignorant and unless you come to your senses, you are about to add to the deplorable population of Trump/Pence supporters who somehow seem to create excuses out of thin air for the most atrocious “leadership” America has ever known. Time to reflect and refocus, Helen. What you spew here is ugly and my educated guess is that our Creator sees it as just that.

    Sincerely,

    Billy Soden

P.S. By the way, I hope you have kept your promise and are praying hard for Trump. God tells us to do so, and He we have yet to witness Trump’s heart turn toward righteousness and truth. Quite the opposite, I’m sad to say.
